I am Charlie Avis, a designer, endurance athlete, and current Senior Product Manager at onXmaps. I’ve been busy building great maps for outdoor recreationalists, and trying to create the next great innovation in the mapping space. Previously, I was a design engineer and project lead at Otherlab. The work displayed on this website was created for Otherlab or various studios at the Princeton School of Architecture.

I grew up in the Bay Area, studied Architecture at Princeton University, and currently live in Bozeman, MT. I am especially interested in how to apply systems design thinking to drive innovation on hard problems. I have a versatile set of experiences building product strategy for new businesses, defining new technologies and usability innovations in consumer mapping, designing solutions for transportation, infectious disease containment, and building systems. I enjoy exploring new applications for old technologies, mashing up the digital and physical worlds.

As an athlete, I am a ski mountaineer and race Skimo, a new Olympic Sport for Cortina ‘26. I was a professional cyclist for three years, racing for the Trek-LIVESTRONG and Bontrager Continental teams from 2010 - 2012. I am always happy to be in the mountains skiing, trail running, fly fishing and climbing.

I am a member of the Board of Directors for One Valley Community Foundation.
